Flag of Los Angeles

The flag of Los Angeles consists of three notched vertical stripes in shades of green, gold and red in the middle of the city seal is shown.

The colors represent olive trees ( green), orange trees (gold) and vineyards (red). The colors are also present in the flags of Spain and Mexico, the two nations that have ruled over the territory before it became part of the United States. The flag was designed by Roy E. Silent and Eli Stanley Jones with the 150th anniversary of the city in 1931.

The flag was given a brief international attention during the closing ceremonies of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She was hoisted in place of the U.S. flag as a symbol of the next host. This step was seen as a response to the Olympic boycott led by the Americans.
