Flag of Monaco
The flag of Monaco was introduced on 4 April 1881.
Description and significance
The national flag consists of two horizontal stripes in red and white. The colors are taken from the coat of arms of Prince Grimaldi family, who ruled Monaco since 1297. The official Seitenverhältnisbeträgt 4:5.
History
The colors are attested to 1339, however, the color arrangement was different than in the present national flag. That was a red and white diamond flag, a coat of arms banners, in use, which as an unofficial national flag is used even today, especially in the 17th century. The present form was established on April 4, 1881 by a regulation.
More flags
The " Princely flag " shows the coat of arms of the House of Grimaldi's on a white background. It serves as a service and war flag. The standard of Prince Albert II shows two red "A" under a crown on a white background.
Others
The same color arrangement is common in many flags around the world. So they are also found in the flag of Indonesia, but has an official aspect ratio of 2:3, and the flag of Hesse with the aspect ratio of 3:5.
