Gospel of Matthew

After the wise men had departed from the east, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream. This ordered him to flee with Mary and Jesus to Egypt because Herod wanted to kill the child. After a divine directions, he moved with his family to Nazareth in Galilee.

The evangelist brings the return of Jesus in the context of the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt: and he was there until the death of Herod; it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying: "Out of Egypt have I called my son. " (Matthew 2:15 NIV ). This refers to a verse in the book of Hosea: When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. (Hos 11.1 ELB ) Originally this what you meant with " Son of God " the people of Israel.
