Francesco Antonio Giorgioli

Francesco Antonio Giorgioli (* 1655 in Meride, northwest of Mendrisio, Ticino Canton, † 1725 in Meride ) was a painter of the Baroque Ticino.

Giorgioli created ceiling and wall frescoes, and occasionally altarpieces for churches and occasionally also for locks, especially in today's cantons of Ticino, Grisons, Aargau and Lucerne. His works mostly represent scenes from the Bible or from the lives of saints; they are painted in the style of panel paintings and are distinguished by their character wealth and the uniform, not very colorful paint scheme. Sometimes saints are supplemented by appropriate emblems. Giorgiolis frescoes fit in perfectly with the architecture and the stucco of the respective church, and thus form part of a Baroque Gesamtkunstwerk. One of the highlights of his work include the frescoed ceilings of the former Benedictine monastery churches Ragaz ( Canton of St. Gallen, 1692 ), Muri (Canton Aargau 1696 /97), Rheinau (Canton Zurich, 1708/ 09) and St.Trudpert in the Munster ( district of Breisgau - Black Forest, 1710 and 1716-1722 ). Total works at 45 locations in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Poland are documented.
