Francesco Podesti

Francesco Podesti ( born March 21, 1800, Ancona, † February 10, 1895 in Rome) was an Italian painter.

Life

In 1815 Podesti to study in Rome at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, first at Gaspare Landi and then at Vincenzo Camuccini, for which he also worked as a studio assistant. His first own works were strongly influenced by the latter.

1836 commissioned him to Charles Albert, King of Sardinia, with the painting " The Judgement of Solomon " for his Palazzo Reale in Turin. An offer to become director of the Accademia Albertina in Turin refused Podesti.

Between 1856 and 1865 Podesti the Sala dell'Immacolate adorned with frescoes in the Vatican on the occasion of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX.

The critic Pietro Selvatico (1803-1880) compared the works Podestis with those of Raphael.

The Civic Art Gallery in Ancona bears the name of Francesco Podesti today.
