Franciszek Rogaczewski

Franciszek Rogaczewski ( born December 23, 1892 in Lipinken, (Polish Lipienki ) at Schwetz, † January 11, 1940 Saspe near Danzig (now Gdansk Zaspa ) ) was a priest and Blessed of the Catholic Church.

Life

Rogaczewski comes from a long-established Polish peasant family. On March 16, 1918 he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Kulm and Bishop Augustine Rosentreter as chaplain first by Neumark in West Prussia, and in 1920 sent to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gdansk - long vehicle (Gdansk- Wrzeszcz ). Finally he came to Danzig to the parishes of St. Bridget's and later St. Joseph. He was very active and a great organizer. In 1924 he founded together with a group of Polish priests, the Catholic League.

With the promotion of the Polish government, he could two churches, Christ the King and St. Stanislaus build. On January 1, 1930, the Danziger Bishop Eduard Graf O'Rourke appointed him pastor of the Polish Gdansk. He was until recently pastor of the Polish Christ the King parish, whose church he had built in the years 1928-1932.

He managed to reach even the special permission of the Holy See for a Polish personal parish in Gdansk. But on 10 October 1937, he and Bronisław Komorowski were appointed to staff pastors, the bishop on 13 October, had to withdraw the previously orally given appointment in writing. This was done under pressure from the German-speaking, who were increasingly influenced by National Socialism. As a result of this affair O'Rourke submitted his resignation.

Early on the first day of the World War, September 1, 1939, the minister Komorowski, Rogaszewski, Bernard of Wiecki, as well as the clergy Wladyslaw Szymanski and Marian Gorecki by SS men were arrested and imprisoned in the Victoria School set and later the Gestapo house in Gdansk - Neugarten transferred. Bishop Splett tried hard to these priests and could even make a short visit.

On Thursday, January 11, 1940, he was in Saspe near Danzig (Gdansk- Zaspa ) shot.

Beatification and commemoration

On June 13, 1999 Pope John Paul II beatified on Pilsudski Square in Warsaw 108 Polish martyrs of the German National Socialist persecution. Among them were the three Danziger clergy Marian Gorecki, Bronisław Komorowski and Franciszek Rogaczewski. A plaque on the Lady Chapel in Söder near Hildesheim calls her name.
