Frankfurt ( Main) Konstablerwache Station with 191,000 passengers per day, according to the Central Station ( 350,000 passengers ) and before the main guard station ( 180,000 passengers) of the busiest train station in Frankfurt am Main. It lies at the eastern end of the Zeil shopping street under the same place and is served by the S- Bahn lines S1 -S6, S8 and S9 as well as the U -Bahn lines U4 -U7. In addition, runs at street level Frankfurt longest tram line 12, and since December 2011, line 18 Konstablerwache station is also the central hub for all night bus routes.

History

Already at the beginning of the 20th century, the Konstablerwache was one of the central hubs of Frankfurt tram. Today's low-level station was built at the beginning of the 1970s and traveled from 1974 onwards, the city railway line B1. The remaining parts of the station were then miterrichtet already under construction, a portion of a planned but never realized Zeil road tunnel was miterrichtet. In 1983 the opening of the Zeiltunnels that have been extended until at station since 1978, ending at the main station S -Bahn lines. Rapid transit node has been put into full operation in 1986 with the opening of the subway lines U6 and U7 (C- path).

After the tram in 1978 was completely gone from the Konstablerwache and temporarily ended in the Great Friedberger Straße, 1999, the first new railway line was inaugurated since the beginning of the subway construction on the Kurt -Schumacher and Konrad -Adenauer-Straße. The section is traversed by the line 12, which then passes to the old route. Since 11 December 2011, the newly installed line runs in addition to the line 12 18 on the Konstablerwache. It combines Sachsenhausen (local station) to the Preungesheim belonging, emerging settlement Frankfurter Bogen ( Gravenstein place).

Construction

As well as the main guard station has the Konstablerwache over a sprawling distribution level, called B- level. In addition to the actual purpose of access to the platforms it serves primarily as a shopping mall and underpass. Here is also constructed provisions as a part of a planned road tunnel in North-South direction, which was never realized.

Tracks

One floor below, in the C- level, is the three-pronged station of the subway lines U4 and U5. The western track ( track 3 ) is traversed by the U5 towards the main station, the middle track (track 2 ) is the line U4 towards Bockenheimer waiting. The eastern track (track 1) is of two lines in the direction Preungesheim (U5 ) or Seckbacher Road / Enkheim (U4 ) traveled together.

Among them, the so-called D- level, run the S-Bahn and the U -Bahn U6 and U7. S- Bahn and U -Bahn share this two island platforms, so that can be switched from the S-Bahn in the subway and vice versa on the same platform. The two outer tracks ( tracks 1 & 4) are thereby used by the subway, the two inner ( tracks 2 & 3) of the S-Bahn.

Artwork " travel in time and space "

To mark the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Frankfurt and Lyon, the French artist group CitéCréation 2010 together with its subsidiary Potsdamer Creative City created a large-scale work of art in the subway station. Under the theme " travel in time and space " built on 500 square meters of the station wall several illusionistic art. They show various motifs from two cities that are connected to a fictitious transport. The work was unveiled on 11 June 2010 in the presence of Lyon Gérard Collomb Mayor and the City Council Volker stone.

" A moment of time travel in a fictional subway, a photogenerated art scene in optical illusion. [ ... ] The image "Travels in Space and Time" in the Frankfurt U -Bahn Konstablerwache shows the exchanges between the two cities, the Frankfurt Museum Embankment Festival and the Festival of Lights, the enchanted Lyon in December.
