Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester

The Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra is the urban orchestra of Frankfurt am Main. Owes its name to the ensemble one hand, the Frankfurt Opera, on the other hand, organized since 1808 concerts of the Frankfurt Museum Society. Current music director of the Opera and principal conductor of the orchestra is Sebastian Weigle. The orchestra in the season 2008/2009 113 members. It is one of currently 82 theater orchestras in Germany and is in the context of the German tariff system for orchestras as A- orchestra with footnote ( here: F1 and Media allowance ) out.

History

With its 200 - year history, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra is one of the most traditional ensembles in Germany. Famous people connect always with the orchestra's history. So Louis Spohr was the second chief conductor, then initiated, inter alia, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Arthur Nikisch, Hans Pfitzner, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Hans Knappertsbusch, Hermann Abendroth, Erich Kleiber, Bruno Walter and George Szell concerts here. Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann, and later Paul Hindemith ( the 1915-1923 concert master of the orchestra was ) among the most outstanding soloists, the concerted with the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra.

The symphonic poems Ein Heldenleben and Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss premiered by the orchestra Museum.

In the second half of the 20th century, Georg Solti, Christoph von Dohnányi, Michael Gielen and Sylvain Cambreling among the internationally acclaimed general music director of the orchestra.

The exact name of the orchestra changed over time. From the season 1925/26, it was called The Opera House and Museum Orchestra, from the season 1930/31 Municipal Orchestra ( Opera and Museum Orchestra ). After the Second World War, the name was first Municipal Opera House and Museum Orchestra, from the season 1981/82 Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra. From the end of 1995, the orchestra was simply called Frankfurt Museum Orchestra, from the season 2009/10 Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra.

Repertoire

The ensemble's repertoire includes all the major works of the operatic and concert repertoire from Baroque to contemporary experimental avant-garde. The most recent world premiere at the Frankfurt Opera was the work of the German composer Detlev Glanert Caligula on October 7, 2006.

The orchestra gives concerts in the subscription series at the Frankfurt Museum Concerts with currently ten programs per season listed twice each ( Sunday morning at 11 clock and Monday night by 20 clock ). The concerts of the Museum Society will be held at the Alte Oper Frankfurt since 1981.

Alongside the concerts deny musicians of the orchestra its own chamber music series in the wood foyer of the Opera House.

Awards

In the survey of the magazine world of opera for the 2005/2006 season, the Museum Orchestra took second, for 2006/2007 to third place in the ranking of the Orchestra of the Year, for the season 2010/2011 the first place.

When critics poll of the magazine The German Stage Oper Frankfurt was also elected for 2006/2007 for best opera house in Germany; it is in the category Best Overall the top spot. The same award went to the house for the following season, 2007/2008. In the 2009/2010 season, finally, the Museum Orchestra took a shared first place as Orchestra of the Year.
