Fränkische Rezat

The Franconian Rezat at Windenbach

The Franconian Rezat is the more significant 63.5 km long left-sided and western source river of Rednitz in Middle Franconia. The Rednitz is the main source of the river Regnitz, in turn, is at its mouth in him noticeably richer in water than the Main, which is why the hydrological main strand of the main system starts with the Franconian Rezat.

Name

The voraltdeutsche output form is Radantia. There is a derivation with the suffix - antia of the Celtic noun rodo. The verbal noun rodo corresponds to the Indo-European verb speak, the " dig " means. Radantia thus refers to a body of water that digs at many places in the landscape. The adjectival additional Franconian refers to the location in Franconia headwaters of Rezat.

Geography

Rezatquelle

The Franconian Rezat originates on the Franks height around 1.5 km south-east of the mountain crest of Peter Berg (504 m above sea level. NN ) and about 2.3 km (depending on distance) north-west of Oberdachstetten to 452 m altitude. Directly through their headwaters, and later along the river runs a section of the railway line from Würzburg to Treuchtlingen. A small pond is posted as a source Rezatquelle.

Course

It flows southeastward, among others, by Oberdachstetten, teaching mountain, Ansbach, Ansbach in Saxony, Lichtenau, Wind Stream, Wassermungenau and gap. In Georgensgmuend the Franconian Rezat united to 342 meters with the Swabian Rezat to Rednitz so that it overcomes a total of 110 m height difference. The Rednitz flows together in Fürth with the Pegnitz river and forms the Regnitz, which flows near Bamberg in the Main.

The Franconian Rezat dehydrated despite their direction towards the Danube to the Rhine system today, because it was tapped from the Main ago. The less than 10 km to the west springing and approximately parallel Altmühltherme other hand, has this old Danubian drainage direction. Therefore, the two neighboring rivers separates the great European watershed.
