Franz Leydig

Franz von Leydig ( born May 21, 1821 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, † April 13, 1908 ) was a German zoologist and comparative anatomist.

Life

Leydig studied philosophy in Munich in 1840 and 1842 medicine in Würzburg, including Franz von Rinecker. In 1847 he received his doctorate in medicine in Würzburg. He became an assistant at the Institute of Physiology under Albert von Kölliker. In 1855 he became an associate professor in Würzburg and took the 1857 call as full professor of zoology and comparative anatomy at the University of Tübingen. In 1875 he became a professor in Bonn, 1887, he became Professor Emeritus.
