Franz Spina

Franz Spina ( born October 5, 1868 in market Türnau in Schönhengstgau ( Moravia ), † September 17, 1938 in Prague ) was a German politician in Czechoslovakia and publicist.

Education history

Franz Spina grew up in a bilingual community market Türnau. He therefore ruled as a child in addition to his native German language Czech language. He attended the Utraquist elementary school in his hometown and moved 1879 into the Piaristengymnasium in Moravskotřebova, which he completed in 1887 with the Matura.

University education

Franz Spina began in 1887 studying German literature, philology and philosophy in Vienna, in 1888, he enrolled at the German University in Prague with the career goal high school professor, at the same time he joined the fraternity in 1889 Constantia, went up in the Munich fraternity Sudetia to. He put his 1892 teaching certificate in German, Latin and Greek from. In 1901, he earned a doctorate in philosophy.

Professional career

He had appointments in Braunau ( Eastern Bohemia ) and Moravian Town, from 1901 to 1905 he was a secondary school teacher in Moravskotřebova. 1906 he was appointed lecturer in the Czech language at the German University in Prague. There followed in 1909 a PhD degree in the Czech language. Spina has authored numerous publications on the cultural history of Bohemia. From 1929 to 1938 he was editor of Slavic Review.

Political positions

In 1920 he was appointed as a Member of the Agrarian League ( BDL ) were elected to the Czechoslovak parliament. In 1926 he was appointed Minister of Public Works. As in 1934 won the Sudeten German Home Front (Konrad Henlein ) in agreement with the German-speaking population, the Agrarian League was in serious trouble. Franz Spina, however, was hostile to this grouping. 1936, a renewed appeal to the Minister without Portfolio.
