Franz von Paula Schrank

Francis of Paula cabinet ( sometimes Schranck ) ( born August 21, 1747 in Vornbach am Inn today: Neuburg am Inn, district of Passau, † December 22, 1835 in Munich) was a German botanist, entomologist and a member of the Jesuit order. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " closet ".

Life and work

Cabinet visited the school today Leopoldinum in Passau and joined the Jesuit Order. After a period as a novice in Vienna he took part in a mission to Brazil, where his interest was aroused for the natural sciences. He continued his theological career continued, however, and received 1776 in Vienna PhD in theology. Already in the same year he became professor of mathematics and physics at the Lyceum in Amberg (Bavaria) and in 1784 professor at the first Bavarian University in Ingolstadt. After laying the university to Landshut in 1800 he continued his activity continued as a university teacher.

Later cabinet was 1809-1832, the first director of the Botanical Garden in Munich.

His bust -up took place in the hall of fame in Munich.

Awards

The plant genus Schrankia Willd. ( = Mimosa quadrivalvis ) has been named after him.
