Frederick DuCane Godman

Frederick DuCane Godman ( born January 15, 1834 in Park Hatch, Surrey, † February 19, 1919 in London) was a British insect and bird watchers.

Life and work

Godman was co-author on the work Biologia Centrali - Americana ( 1879-1915 ). But his work also includes The Natural History of the Azores (1870 ) and Monograph of the Petrels ( 1907-10 ).

Godman was educated at Eton College and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. At Cambridge he met Alfred Newton and Osbert Salvin know what led to the founding of the British Ornithologists ' Union ( BOU ) in November 1857. Godman was 1896 President of the Union.

In 1882 he was elected as a member ( "Fellow" ) to the Royal Society. 1918 Linnean Medal of the Linnean Society of London awarded him.
