French West African Cup

The Coupe d' AOF (French: Coupe d' Afrique Occidentale Française ) was the football cup competition, the French colonial federation of French West Africa.

After the Football Federation of French West Africa, the Ligue d' AOF de Football was founded on 31 March 1946 in Dakar, decided Association President Barat to host a club competition after the French federation Fédération Française de Football ( FFF), a cup had been donated. This competition was initially limited to Senegalese clubs, but contemporary media described the competition as part Coupe du Sénégal, partly as coups d' AOF, with the latter name had prevailed up to the time of the finale. The first edition was a great success and was followed by the public with passion. Sixteen clubs from the four cities of Senegal - Dakar, Saint- Louis, Rufisque, Gorée - played in the knockout system from the first title holder. In the final U.S. Gorée defeated with player-coach Raoul Diagne Jeanne d' Arc Dakar 2-1.

In the following years was also attended by teams from Benin, Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), French Sudan (now Mali), Guinea, Ivory Coast and Niger and Togo in part, that was not part of the Federation. The organizing Football Association was established in 1951 affiliated to the Association of the mother country.
