Friedrich Martin Berwerth

Friedrich Martin Berwerth ( born November 16, 1850 in Sighisoara, Transylvania, † September 22, 1918 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mineralogist and Petro graph.

Berwerth, the son of a pharmacist, studied in Vienna and Graz chemistry and in 1873 received his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg. After that, he was an assistant at mineralogical- petrographic Institute of the University of Vienna under Gustav Tschermak, who is also into him kk Court mineral cabinet took, the later Natural History Court Museum. In 1897 he became head of the petrographic and mineralogical department and in 1905 director of the Imperial Natural History Court Museum. In 1918 he went into retirement. At the same time he was sent to the Habilitation in petrography (1888 ) in 1894 and 1907 associate professor at the University of Vienna.

He had the Councillor title.

In later years he dealt primarily with meteorites.

In 1901 he founded the Wiener Mineralogical Society with Friedrich Becke. On his initiative the German Mineralogical Society was founded in 1908.
