GAC Toyota

Guangqi Toyota Automobile Company (Chinese广 汽 丰田 汽车 有限公司) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer based in Guangzhou. On 1 September 2004 the new joint venture between Guangzhou Automobile Group and Toyota Motor Company was founded.

Construction of the plant

The construction of the newly built plant was completed in 2007. Since that time there for two cars and two SUVs are manufactured under the brand name of Guangzhou Toyota. The production of the first model, the Guangzhou - Toyota Yaris, began in October 2004.

Business

Toyota employs 5,600 workers at the new plant. In the first phase, the new Toyota trained staff and invested a lot in the attached private educational institutions. This firstly includes a training center for adults, as to the employees to enable also a kindergarten, a primary school and a secondary school during break times a family contact. The environment was designed in accordance with various plants, trees, gardens and several parks. Guangzhou Toyota is primarily a pilot project, which is how Toyota hopes to have the future.

Guangqi Toyota Automobile Company has produced with its modern facilities the possibility of 200,000 units per year. 2007, however, the production ran at reduced capacity. Thus only about 170,000 automobiles are manufactured. 2008 and 2009 it was finally 172,000 units / year. Since August 26, 2008 Guangzhou Toyota is also represented on the exchange.
