Blanket flower ( Gaillardia hybrid)

The plant genus Kokardenblumen ( Gaillardia ), also known as parrot flowers or flower painter, belonging to the sunflower family ( Asteraceae). There are about 15 to 29 species of the United States to southern South America and many hybrids.

Description

Kokardenblumen species are annual or perennial herbaceous plants or subshrubs. The change-constant leaves are usually simple; they can also be feathered. The leaf edges are serrated or smooth.

The bloom conditions, either singly on the stem. There are bracts present. The flower heads contain the outside of a circle of five to 15 ( may be missing ) zygomorphic ray florets ( ray florets = ) and inside 20 to over 100 radiärsymmetrische, fertile florets ( = disc florets ). The achenes have a pappus.

Use

As ornamental plants themselves hybrids are great for flowerbeds. Some Kokardenblumen varieties that reach heights of growth between 30 and 50 ( 80 ) cm, are lasting cut flowers. Often the bloom conditions have raised a red disc in the center. The individual flowers are usually red or yellow. The flowering season is from early June to October.
