The designated Gampenpass, as Gampenjoch (Italian Passo delle Palade ), is a 1518 m slm high mountain pass in South Tyrol ( Italy). He joins the Adige Valley to the Val di Non.

Description

The pass road begins in Lana to 316 m slm and overcomes to a total of 17.5 km to the pass 1202 meters. The road at first almost due south. Then bent at Tisens from west to bypass the 1626 -meter-high Tisner Gall (Italian Vicale ). After two turns and a tunnel leads back to the south and reaches the location in South Tyrol pass. The maximum slope on the north ramp is 8.5 percent. This results in a for Alpine passes with comparable values ​​for distance and altitude unusually uniform slope of the road. History

From 1810 to 1815 here, the border between the newly founded by Napoleon Italian State in the south and the Kingdom of Bavaria in the north. Between 1938 and 1942 the Italian military expanded the pass to a blocking position of the Vallo Alpino. Directly on top of the pass can be found today, the architectural remains of the once- planned artillery work. Until 1948, the Gampenpass was the provincial border between the provinces of Bolzano and Trento.

Road Bike race

The local Radverein, the R.V. Edelrot Lana, organizes every year a bike race of Lana on the Gampenpass. The race is called the Edelrot Berg Trophy, the number of participants is usually at a hundred racing cyclists from all nations. In 2011, the club hosted the race in FCI national championship for amateurs in the mountain time trial.
