Garfield Davies, Baron Davies of Coity

David Garfield Davies, Baron Davies of Coity, CBE (* June 24, 1935 ) is a former British trade union leaders.

Life

Davies in 1950 began working as an electrician. From 1956 to 1958 he served in the Royal Air Force. From 1969 he was a professional trade union official with the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers ( Usdaw ). He was able to rise within this union professionally and on until he headed her as general secretary from 1986. He held until 1997 this post.

He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire and elevated to the status of a Life Peer for the Co-operative Party 1997 1996. Since then he is formally called Baron Davies of Coity, of Penybont in the County of Mid Glamorgan.

Davies is married and has 4 children.
