Co-operative Party

The Co-operative Party is a center -left party in the UK, which represents cooperative principles and supported.

History and principles

The party that is in 1917 emerged from the efforts of the British co-operative movement for political influence, it was at the beginning of almost only to the problems of the cooperative movement. But since the 1930s it has gradually expanded its program and sought what they thought as the core of the cooperative movement sees in all areas to implement.

According to the publications of the party is about the Co-operative Party is still the recognition of organized cooperative enterprises, but also a social economy in general. The Party shall endeavor, within this framework to strengthen the cooperative idea in Europe as well as in developing countries. The party strives for sustainable development of economy and society and the assumption of shared responsibility by the individuals and business alike.

Since 1927 the party has a political and electoral agreement with the Labour Party. It is legal but a separate political organization, and the members of the Co-operative Party may, but need not, join the Labour Party, but shall not be members of another political party. However, a prerequisite for membership in the party membership in another cooperative organization. The party will not be bidding on their own behalf in elections in the UK, but with candidates under the name " Labour and Co-operative Party".
