Gasparo Duiffopruggar

Caspar Tieffenbrucker, Kaspar Tieffenbrucker or Gasparo Duiffopruggar (* 1514 in Fussen, † 1570 in Lyon ) is considered one of the greatest lute and violin makers of his time. He appeared in Fussen, Lyon, Bologna and Roßhaupten.

Life

Originally from the famous family of instrument makers Tieffenbrucker Caspar Tieffenbrucker worked mostly in Lyon. Füssen is regarded as one of the earliest and most important centers for lute and violin making in Germany. From 1539 spent Tieffenbrucker journeyman years in Italy, presumably with a relative before he returned in 1544 to Fussen and in April of the same year, by Marries acquired the rights of citizenship. As of November 1553 is documentary evidence in Lyon. Tieffenbrucker is considered the founder of the French Lautenbauschule and probably was one of the first violin maker who established there the violin in the form used today. In 1558 he received the Lyon Civil Rights.

Violins by Caspar Tieffenbrucker are now rarely encountered, the most famous instruments are considered replicas Jean Baptiste Vuillaume from the 19th century. His son Caspar II Tieffenbrucker worked from his father's death in Paris, most recently in the rue Pot- de -Fer.

Caspar Tieffenbrucker was, inter alia, Teacher of Johann Helmer, lute and violin maker in Leipzig.

His son, Gaspar Tieffenbrucker (before 1570 - after 1582) was lute and violin makers in Paris and Lyon.
