Gazi Husrev Beg
Gazi Husrev -beg (* 1480 in Serra, Ottoman Empire (today Greece); † 1541 in Mokro in Drobnjaci, Montenegro ) Bey was the Sanjak of Bosnia under the Ottoman Empire.
His father was a Bosniak from Trebinja, while his mother was a daughter of Sultan Bayezid II. As a general, he conquered in less than three years Knin, Skradin and Ostrovica. After these military successes Gazi Husrev -beg was, according to the decision of the divan of the Sublime Porte, the government of the Ottoman Empire, the Bey ( beg ) of the Bosnian Sanjak ( Sanjak -Bey ) appointed.
He then captured the fortified cities Greben, Sokol, Jezero, Vinac, Vrbaski degree Livac, Karmatin, Bočac, Udbina, Vrana, Modruč and Požega.
In addition to the military success Gazi Husrev -beg had an enormous influence on the development of Bosnia, especially in the city of Sarajevo. He renewed the imperial mosque and built the famous Gazi Husrev - Beg mosque, a library, a madrasah (Islamic school), the Sahat - kula ( clock tower ), hospital and many other famous buildings.
Gazi Husrev -beg was killed during an uprising in Montenegro in 1541. His body was transferred to Sarajevo and was buried in a Türbe near his mosque. Above the doors to the tombs is written: " May God's falling every day mercy and blessings be upon him."
