GeForce FX Series

The GeForce FX series is a series of desktop graphics chip company Nvidia and successor of the GeForce 4 series. She came in the years 2003 and 2004 on the market. For marketing reasons Nvidia renounced the GeForce FX series on the " 5" in the name. The term " FX" was also used for the CineFX architecture.

GPUs

Within the GeForce FX series different GPUs are used, which differ in their manufacturing technology, native interface and graphics pipeline configuration. All GeForce FX series have a native AGP interface. NV37 NV39 and were marketing name for together with a PCIe bridge chip sold NV34 NV36 respectively.

Naming

With the GeForce FX series NVIDIA has opted for a complete distinction of low-cost, mainstream and high-end through a four-digit number, similar to competitor ATI the Radeon family. Within these market segments is then diversified with more acronyms abound.

In the later PCI Express variants, the symbol FX was replaced by PCX to highlight the difference.

  • 52xx / 55xx: low-cost
  • 56xx / 57xx: Mainstream
  • 58xx / 59xx: High- End

Abbreviation:

  • LE - beginner version, the weakest * model of a segment
  • XT - beginner version, the weakest * model of a segment
  • SE - slightly stronger XT version, more powerful than LE or XT
  • [ no suffix ] - the "normal" chip
  • Ultra - highest performance model

Note *: The GeForce FX 5700 VE was released by Nvidia even weaker FX 5700 LE and 5900 ZT a weaker FX 5900 XT card.
