General Motors Canada

General Motors of Canada is a subsidiary of General Motors Company in Detroit (USA). The company's headquarters is located in Oshawa on Lake Ontario. The company employs over 23,000 people at several production sites in Canada. The vehicles will be produced for the North American market and partly for export to other countries.

History

GM of Canada was founded in 1918 by the acquisition of the Canadian automotive manufacturer, McLaughlin Motor Car Co., which has been producing since 1907 vehicles in Canada. The vehicles were based on the Buick Model F, which had slight deviations for the U.S. version. After the complete acquisition of McLaughlin Motor Car by General Motors General Motors of Canada was founded. The company operates as a 100 percent subsidiary of General Motors Company. In 1989, the new headquarters of General Motors of Canada was opened on Lake Ontario. This is located on Highway 401 and has an atrium exhibit large displays by the current vehicle models. 2001 GMC Canadian Regional Engineering Centre was opened. It is primarily responsible for the development of vehicles, which are produced in Canada. In 2009, the production plants in Oshawa, Ontario, were JD Power and Associates awarded the Silver Plant Quality Award.
