George A. Sinner

George Albert Sinner (* May 29, 1928 in Fargo, North Dakota ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). He was from 1985 to 1992 the 29th Governor of the State of North Dakota.

Early years and political beginnings

George Sinner studied until 1950 at the Saint John's University in Collegeville philosophy. Between 1951 and 1952 he was in the U.S. Air Force. He then began a long political career. Between 1962 and 1966 he sat in the Senate from North Dakota. From 1967 to 1974 he was owned by a government committee ( State Board of Higher Education ) to. Between 1971 and 1972 he was a delegate to a convention to revise the State Constitution. From 1975 to 1979 he served as president of the Association of Sugar Beet Growers ( River Valley Sugar Beet Growers ). During this time he was active also in other agricultural associations.

Governor of North Dakota

In 1982, George Sinner was elected to the House of Representatives from North Dakota. Two years later, he managed to win the gubernatorial election with 55.3 percent of the vote against Republican incumbent Allen I. Olson. After a re-election in 1988, he could serve until 15 December 1992. During this time, agriculture went through as a result of drought and poor harvests the worst crisis since the Great Depression in the early 1930s. Also at this time North Dakota celebrated the 100th anniversary of the accession to the United States. During the Second Gulf War, the National Guard of North Dakota was established in 1991. George Sinner was also a member of various associations governor.

In 1992, Sinner gave up for reelection and retired to private life. He is married to Elizabeth Jane Baute, with whom he had ten children.
