George Lance
George Lance ( born March 24, 1802 in Little Easton, Essex, † June 18, 1864 in Sunnyside at Birkenhead, Merseyside ) was an English painter.
Life
Lance was a pupil of the painter Benjamin Robert Haydon and preferred in his work often still life, such as flowers and fruit ensembles. However, in animal painting Lance could soon make a name.
Lance took on the advice and support of his teacher in 1828 for the first time in an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts; encouraged by this debut, Lance took part in almost any of these annual exhibitions.
His fine sense of nature has given him abroad validity. The National Gallery ( London) has a still life and two pieces of fruit from him.
