George Washington Greene
George Washington Greene ( born April 8, 1811 in East Greenwich (Rhode Iceland ); † February 8, 1883 ) was an American historian.
George Washington Greene, grandson of Nathaniel Greene, was 1837-45 Consul of the Union in Rome, in 1847 professor of modern languages at Brown University in Providence, and in 1872 professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He died on 8 February 1883 in East Greenwich.
He published valuable treatises on Italian history and literature under the titles:
