Georgia House of Representatives

The House of Representatives from Georgia ( Georgia House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Georgia General Assembly, the legislature of the U.S. state of Georgia.

The Houses of Parliament is composed of 180 deputies, representing an electoral district respectively. Deputies are elected for two -year terms; limiting the terms of office does not exist. The elections held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years instead.

The conference hall of the House of Representatives is located together with the State Senate in Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta capital.

Structure of the chamber

Speaker of the House is the Speaker of the House. He is initially elected by the majority faction of the chamber before the confirmation by the whole Parliament follows. The Speaker is also responsible for the course of legislation and monitors the shutdowns in the various committees. Current Speaker is David Ralston, a member of the Republican from the 7th constituency. There is also the office of the Speaker pro tempore, the incumbent for the position of the speaker, only takes over when he dies, resigns or is not able to because of a personal infirmity, to perform his duties. Currently Ján Jones, Republican representative from the 46th electoral district, held the office.

Other important office holders are the Majority Leader ( Majority Leader ) and the leader of the opposition (minority leader), who are elected by the respective fractions. The Republican majority faction is led currently by Larry O'Neal from the 146th constituency, Minority leader of the Democrats is Stacey Abrams of the 84th electoral district. The majority leader decides which bills come to discussion on the agenda of speakers. He also manages the debates and the chamber votes.
