Géovreisset

Géovreisset is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Géovreisset situated 650 meters above sea level. M., about three kilometers west of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village extends to the north of the Haut- Bugey, in the Jura, in a depression on the west adjacent to the basin of Oyonnax ridge.

The area of ​​3.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the ridge which separates the basin of Oyonnax in the east of that of Oignin in the West. Landscape formative are the narrow ridge of Châtelard, the valley of the west Géovreisset and subsequent Bois de Samognat, in the 754 m above sea level. M. is reached the highest point of the municipality. To the north- east, the municipality area extends up to the outskirts of Oyonnax.

To Géovreisset the hamlet of piss -Loup is one (630 m above sea level. M. ) at the northern foot of the Châtelard. Neighboring communities of Géovreisset are Oyonnax in the north, Bellignat in the east, and Groissiat Izernore in the south and Samognat in the West.

History

In the 13th century Géovreisset is first mentioned. The sovereignty over the territory in 1402 went to the Counts of Savoy over. The Treaty of Lyon reached the village in 1601 to France. Since the end of the 19th century Géovreisset learned along with the other communities in the valley of Oyonnax an economic boom by introducing the plastics industry (especially manufacturing of balls, ping pong balls and kids toys ).

Attractions

The village of Saint-Martin church originally dates from the 11th and 12th centuries, but has been remodeled and restored in the 17th century. The " Château " on a hill at the eastern edge is a powerful townhouse that was built around 1850 by Félix Druard who attained as an industrialist and mayor of Oyonnax awareness.

Population

With 912 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Géovreisset one of the smaller communities of the department of Ain. Since the early 1970s, a striking increase in population was recorded. During this time, the population has grown almost fivefold.

Economy and infrastructure
