Gérard Saint

Gérard Saint ( born July 11, 1935 in Argentan, † March 16, 1960 in Le Mans ) was a French cyclist.

Gérard Saint was in the second half of the 1950s as a promising talent, even as an amateur, he was able to record until 1954 numerous victories. In 1955 he won the Grand Prix de France, 1957 Tour de Luxembourg and the Circuit des Trois Provinces, 1958, the Circuit de l' Alder and 1959 the Manche- Océan. In addition, he won numerous races at prestigious podiums, so in 1958 the third place in the Trofeo Baracchi ( with Roger Rivière ).

1959 Saint second in Paris-Nice, launched at the Road World Championships in Zandvoort and was 40th in the same year the great and lanky Saint (1.91 meters, 75 kg) rode the Tour de France and was the first of the newly introduced award for " most aggressive rider " in the overall standings, he finished ninth.

The following year, the 24 -year-old Gerard Saint was killed when he drove his car near Le Mans front of a tree. The stadium his hometown Argentan now bears his name.
