Gerhard Hennige

Gerhard Hennige ( born September 23, 1940 in Karlsruhe ) is a retired German track and field athlete and Olympic medalist, who belonged from 1966 to 1971 to the world's top 400-meter hurdlers.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he won two medals for the Federal Republic: In his special discipline, he finished second in 49.0 s and the 4 x 400 meters relay he finished third (along with Helmar Müller, Manfred Children and Martin Jellinghaus / Gerhard Hennige as second runner ).

Also at the European Athletics Championships 1969, he won with the season of the Federal Republic the bronze medal (along with Horst -Rüdiger Schlöske, Ingo Roper and Martin Jellinghaus / Gerhard Hennige as third runner ).

Growing up is Hennige in Aulendorf in Baden- Württemberg, where he began athletics at SG Aulendorf. He began then to 1966 for the ASV Köln until 1968 for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and until 1971 for the ASC Darmstadt. At a height of 1.89 m his competition weight was 82 kg.

By 2004, the qualified sports teacher then worked as a full-time teacher at the university sports center at the Technical University Darmstadt. In addition, he oversaw the end of the 1990s as a conditioning coach the Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher.
