Gerlachov, Poprad District

Gerlachov (up to 1927 Slovak " Gerlachov "; Gerlsdorf German, Hungarian Gerlahfalva - to 1902 Gerlachfalu ) is a small town in north-eastern Slovakia with 808 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Poprad, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the valley Podtatranská kotlina, more specifically in the part Popradská kotlina, at the foot of the High Tatras. It belongs to the Spis region and gives the northern mountain Gerlachovský stit ( Gerlsdorfer tip), and indirectly the mountains Gerlachovská veža and Zadný Gerlach 's name. The village center is eight kilometers west of Poprad.

History

The place was karpathendeutsche Gold Miner (hence the emblem of two crossed mining hammers ), or more precisely by the judge Gerlach from George Berg / Spišská Sobota ( now part of Poprad ) established on behalf of the noble family Máriássy and 1326 is as Gerlachfewlde ( Gerlach field ) is mentioned for the first time. From this period also the oldest building of the town, the tower of the 13th-century church. However, the rest of the church burned down as the entire place in 1876 and was rebuilt. The evangelical church in the village was built in 1800 and restored in 1899. Until the expulsion of 1945, the city had predominantly German -speaking residents.

Today, the town lives mainly from tourism.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Gerlachov 809 inhabitants, of whom 719 Slovaks, 48 Roma, 6 Czechs, Ruthenians 3 and 4 on the other ethnicity. 36 inhabitants gave no indication. 378 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, 255 inhabitants to the Protestant Church, 46 residents of the Seventh- day Adventist Church, 11 inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church, 10 inhabitants to the United Methodist Church and 17 inhabitants were of a different denomination. 51 residents were non-denominational and bei41 population is not addressed in the denomination.
