German Sportspersonality of the Year

Since 1947, select the German sports journalists, first in the four Allied occupation zones, from 1949, the Federal Republic of Germany at each end of the German Sportswoman of the Year and the Athlete of the Year. Since 1957, an additional team of the year is calculated. Was initiated this choice of Kurt Dobbratz, founder of the Sports Press Agency International sports correspondent, who is responsible as the organizer today. In the GDR took place from 1953 to 1989, in contrast to the Federal Republic, a sportsman choice (see Sportsman of the Year (DDR ) ) as part of a reader survey conducted by the daily newspaper Junge Welt instead. Recent solo winners were Wiltrud Urselmann with 15 years for women and Boris Becker with 18 years for men. Oldest Single winners were Karl Kling at the men and women with Birgit Fischer at the age of 42.

With Dirk Nowitzki a team athlete was named Sportsman of the Year in 2011 for the first time. Nowitzki became in 2005 second and third in 2007. The appointment Sportsman of the Year 2011, Nowitzki's second award, after in 2005 the German national basketball team of the gentlemen had been elected to the Team of the Year.
