Gerold of Vinzgau

Gerold of Anglachgau (also Gerold I.; * 730, † probably shortly after 784 ) was a Frankish nobleman and around 777/784 Count Kraichgau and Anglachgau. He is the progenitor of Gerold Onen and the Udalrichinger, as well as his daughter Hildegard grandfather of the Emperor Louis the Pious. His parents were Agilolf / Egilolf and Heriswinda.

Life

Gerold was Count Kraichgau and Anglachgau. Later he moved to Alamannia, where he married Imma, daughter of Count Alamannic Hnabi and sister of Count Ruatpert. Through marriage with Imma Gerold arrived in Alemanni the highest nobility and was thus able to strengthen its position in Alamannia significantly. Imma Huoching grandfather was the brother of the Bavarian Duke Odilo, which he thus gave also access to the Bavarian nobility.

On July 1, 784 gave Geroldus et coniux mea Imma the Imperial Abbey of Lorsch extensive estates in Anglachgau, Kraichgau and in Wormsgau, Lobdengau and Ufgau. Probably shortly afterwards died Gerold.
