Gerontocracy

Gerontocracy comes from the ancient Greek expressions γέρων Géron ( old man, old man ) and κράτος krátos ( rule ) and means rule of the ancients '. It is a form of rule, determine political action in the mainly people old age.

In today's parlance, the term Gerontokrat ' often used in a negative context. It means here the assumption that the consumed power position of a person is only caused by her old age, and not a qualification.

Artistic processing

In the science fiction novel Holy Fire (AKA Holy Fire, 1972) describes the U.S. author Bruce Sterling a future of western society in which life expectancy was raised by medicine and technology to over 200 years ( see transhumanism ) so that capital and political power almost exclusively held by the gerontocrats. The younger ones are living in a parallel society and have little prospect of achieving power and wealth during their lifetime.
