The Society for computer science eV ( abbreviated GI ) is the largest computer science specialist representation in Germany.

History

Since 1969, promotes the GI in computer science research, teaching and application, and education in this area. The registered non-profit association has about 22,000 members, including 300 corporate (corporate) members and 2,500 student members (as of March 2007).

The GI is a member of the International Federation for Information Processing ( IFIP ) and the Council for European Professional Informatics Societies ( CEPIS ). It also has a seat and vote in the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Werner -von- Siemens-Ring. Furthermore, it is among other shareholders of the Leibniz Center for computer science ( LTI ) at Schloss Dagstuhl, the technical information center Karlsruhe (FIZ ), the German computer science Academy ( DIA), the service company for computer science ( DLGI ) and together with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Fraunhofer -Gesellschaft winner of the national competition computer science.

In over 100 professionally organized and more than 30 regional structured groupings (as of March 2008) are continuously practice and research experiences exchanged is vendor-neutral training operated, developed positions towards politics and other social groups and consult each other.

With awards and competitions such as the computer science days, the InformatiCup, the computer science Beaver or the Girls Go computer science, the Society promotes the understanding of and interest in computer science, young talent and services rendered in the field of computer science. She also advises governments and parliaments in matters of computer science and information processing.

On 29 November 2012, the GI opened a Berlin office.

Meetings

The GI regularly hosts from extensive technical meetings. The GI - annual meetings SCIENCE find each in cooperation with universities and industrial partners place in German-speaking countries at different locations. In 2013, the implementation of the COMPUTER SCIENCE 2013 in Koblenz is provided. The conference will again cover the entire spectrum of computer science.

Since 1991, the Section organized computer as a medium, the HyperKult.

The department of human-computer interaction has been organized since 2001, the conference series humans and computers.
