Gherardo Hercolani Fava Simonetti

S. E. Venerable Bailiff Fra ' Gherardo Maria Hercolani Fava Simonetti ( born August 20, 1941 in Bologna, Italy) was on 12 February 2009 to 6 December 2011, the Grand Commander of the Order of Malta, one of the four High Officers of the Order.

Religious Life

After Hercolani was admitted to the Order of Malta in 1963, he has perpetual vows in 1977 and was professed knights. In 1986 he was raised to the Professed Bailiff Grand Cross.

From 1984 to 1994 he was the Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of Lombardy and Veneto.

Since 2006 he was a member of the Sovereign Council, which he had already been consulted 1978-1983.

Since June 2007 he has also been President of Haj Affairs of the Order.

On 12 February 2009 Simonetti was appointed after the resignation of his predecessor Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sangui net from the Sovereign Council for the period until the next General Chapter to the Grand Commander. On 8 June 2009 he was elected by the General Chapter to 5 years. After Simonetti had the Grand Master declared his resignation for health reasons as Grand Commander, was at the meeting of the Sovereign Council of 6 and 7 December Carlo d' Ippolito di Sant'Ippolito, Professed Knights Grand Cross and a member of the Sovereign Council, until the next General Chapter appointed Grand Commander.
