Ghost (Swedish band)
Ghost (English, spirit ') ( BC Ghost in the United States) is a Swedish heavy metal band from Linköping. The members of the band perform masked and anonymous, and in each case with "A Nameless Ghoul " (English, A nameless ghoul ') are specified, only the singer uses the pseudonym " Papa Emeritus " (, Emeritus Pope '), or " Papa Emeritus II "
History
The band was founded in 2008 and published two years later, a demo recording with three songs on their own, as well as a 7 " vinyl single with the songs Elizabeth and Death Knell for the German record label Iron Pegasus Records. The lyrics of the song Elizabeth was of the legends about the life of the Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Báthory inspired Death Knell (English, knell ') was already included on the demo and was again taken up for the single. upon signature at the British label Rise Above Records of Lee Dorrian was published on 18. October 2010, the debut album Opus Eponymous in Europe. on this are including two instrumentals nine songs, including the four previously published pieces in (but repeated ) Record. publication in North America took place on 18 January 2011 via Metal Blade Records in Japan the album was released on April 6 at Trooper Entertainment with a cover version of the Beatles song Here Comes the Sun as a bonus track.
Her first two live performances the band did in October 2010 at the Hammer of Doom Festival in Würzburg and the Live Evil Festival in London. Joint appearances with Watain, Deströyer 666, followed by In Solitude and Repugnant. In summer 2011, Ghost played at several music festivals, including the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg and Maryland Death Fest in Baltimore. The latter was also the first appearance of the band outside Europe. In addition, the band was the opening act at some concerts of the bands Paradise Lost and Blood Ceremony at their respective European tour. In September and October Ghost to go on tour in the U.S. with Enslaved and Alcest, and accompany from November In Flames and Trivium on their European tour.
On December 15, 2012 Papa Emeritus handed at a concert in Linköping, Sweden, the vocal mic to one ( as anonymous ) successor, with " Io sono Papa Emeritus secondo " ( Italian: "I 'm Papa Emeritus of II " ) presented. Then played a new song called Ghost Secular Haze, which was released on 20 December 2012 on official website of Ghost as the first single of the second album as a pre-release version to listen to. The album, entitled Infestissumam appeared on 19 April 2013.
Style
The band plays heavy metal with satanic lyrics. The music has influences of psychedelic rock of the 1960s, the Doom Metal of the 1970s and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal of the 1980s. January Wigger Spiegel Online described the music as " hauntingly smooth and memorable " and saw parallels to songs by Blue Öyster Cult and King Diamond, a member of the band said yes a connectedness to the artists The Doors and Roky Erickson. The cover of Opus Eponymous has strong parallels to the movie poster of the Stephen King adaptation on firing must Salem. Members
It is speculated that musicians are behind the band members. Behind the masks were there members of the Swedish bands Repugnant and suspects In Solitude. Especially behind the stage name " Papa Emeritus " is intended to hide the musician Tobias Forge, who plays for the power-pop band Subvision and also as is " Mary Goore " Member of Repugnant and former member of the Hair Metal band Crashdïet. A possible connection there is also to In Solitude, as their bassist gottfrid Åhman under the pseudonym " G. Grotesque " also plays Repugnant.
Occurrence
The band members appear, with the exception of the singer on exclusively masked, and in brown or black Habiten with hoods. Opus Eponymous was positively received by critics. Götz Kühnemund of RockHard magazine called Ghost " the big thing of the day in the Underground" and awarded nine out of ten possible points, in addition, the album among the top ten of the month was listed. The U.S. music magazine Decibel Opus Eponymous listed at number 24 of the 40 best albums of the year 2010. Readers of music magazine Sweden Rock Magazine, however, chose the album in 2011 at number three of the best albums of the past ten years.
