Gijsbrecht van Brederode

Gijsbrecht van Brederode (* 1416, † August 15, 1475 in Breda ) was bishop of Utrecht and provost of St. Donatius in Bruges and St. Servatius in Maastricht.

Gijsbrecht, the noble family of the van Brederode entstammend, was a son of Walraven I and Joanna van Vianen. His older brother was Reinoud van Brederode II, Erbburggraf of Utrecht, with which he was dragged into the political disputes of Utrecht.

Gijsbrecht was provost of Utrecht; as a supporter of Hoeksen Party ( hook-and- Cod War ), he headed the fight against Utrecht Bishop Rudolf von Diepholz.
