Gilroy is a city in Santa Clara County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 51 173 inhabitants ( 2008).
The metropolitan area has a size of 41.1 km ². It is often referred to as the "Garlic Capital " of the world, as you can see at a passing car ( and smell ) can. The city hosts the annual since 1979 " Gilroy Garlic Festival ", a cook and barbecue around garlic. The residents of the Bay Area know the place mainly through its Outlet Center.
