Santa Clara County, California

Santa Clara County is a county located in the state of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is in San Jose.

Geography

The County is bordered on the northwest by the San Mateo County, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. In Santa Clara County is known as the Silicon Valley and the associated Santa Clara Valley. This is known in particular for his numerous agricultural crops, such as apples, corn and citrus fruits also play a significant role in the regional economy. The cultivation of grapevines is of central importance for the area.

The San Andreas Fault runs through the Santa Cruz Mountains to the south of the county.

History

Santa Clara County was one of the first counties in California and was founded in 1850. Parts of the county area were issued in 1853, the Alameda County. It was named named after the Mission Santa Clara de Asis, which was built here in 1777. The mission is named after Saint Clare of Assisi.

The racial the population was composed of 53.83 % White, 2.80 % African American, 0.67 % Native American, 25.56 % Asian, 0.34 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 12.13% from other races groups; 4.66% were descended from two or more races. 23.98 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 565 863 households out of which 34.90 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.90 % were married couples living together, 10.00 % had a female householder with no husband. 30.10 % were non-families. 21.40% of all households and 5.90% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 3.41 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 24.70 % under the age of 18, 9.30 % from 18 to 24, 35.40 % from 25 to 44 years, 21.00% between 45 and 64 years and 9.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.80 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.90 males.

The median income for a household was $ 74,335, and the median income for a family was $ 81,717. Males had a median income of $ 56,240, women $ 40,574. The per capita income was $ 32,795. 7.50% percent of the population and 4.90 % of families are below the poverty line. 8.40 % of those under age 18 and 6.40% were 65 years or older.
