Orange County, California

Orange County is a county in the south of the U.S. state of California and is according to the Los Angeles County, the most populous county in California. The administrative seat of the county is located in Santa Ana.

Geography

The area of the county comprises 2455 square kilometers. Of this, 411 square kilometers of water ( 16.74 percent) and 2044 square kilometers of land ( 83.26 per cent). In the North Orange County is adjacent to the Los Angeles County and is therefore also the greater Los Angeles area allocated. Other neighboring counties are San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego.

History

The name of the county refers to the orange groves that were there earlier in large numbers present. In the first half of the 20th century, the cultivation of citrus fruits was a major industry, in the meantime, however, has almost no meaning. Less than one percent of employees work in the agricultural sector. Today, the service sector plays by far the largest role. The manufacturing sector is losing importance, but there are jobs especially in the manufacture of computer hardware. Based on the county the population was spread out with 27.00 % under the age of 18, 9.40 % from 18 to 24, 33.20% from 25 to 44 years, 20.60% between 45 and 64 years and 9.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.00 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.70 males.

The median income for a household was $ 58,820, and the median income for a family was $ 64,611. Males have a median income of $ 45,059, women $ 34,026. The per capita income was $ 25,826. 10.30% percent of the population and 7.00% of families are below the poverty line. 13.20% of those under age 18 and 6.20% were 65 years or older.

Many well-known bands including Evil Dead, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, The Adolescents, Zebrahead and The Offspring are from Orange County. Other well-known bands are: No Doubt, Ignite, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, Reel Big Fish, Thrice, Something Corporate and the OC Supertones.
