Gintaras Steponavičius

Gintaras Steponavičius ( born July 23, 1967 in Klaipėda) is a Lithuanian politician, Member of the Seimas, former parliamentary vice-president, and Education and Science Minister.

Biography

After graduation in 1985 at the Antanas - Vienuolis Middle School in Vilnius he graduated in 1992, the Diploma in Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law, Vilnius University (VU) and studied in 1990 in The Hague ( Netherlands ), 1991 at the University of Copenhagen ( Denmark ), 1992 at European Institute of the University of Birmingham (UK ), 1994 and from 1995 to 1999, doctoral studies at the Institute of International relations and Political Science of the VU, and 1999, at the Royal University of Groningen (Netherlands).

From 1994 to 2000 he was a Lithuanian Coordinator of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Vilnius from 1994 to 2004 High School Teacher of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of the VU, 1997-2000 member of the city council Vilnius, Chairman of the Liberal Group. Since 2000 he is a member of the Seimas ( 2005-2008 Deputy Chairman of the Seimas ), and December 9, 2008 to December 12, 2012 Minister of Education in the 15th Lithuanian government (Cabinet Kubilius II).

Gintaras Steponavičius is married. He has a son from his first marriage and a daughter from his second marriage.
