Giovanni Volta

Giovanni Volta ( born March 14, 1928 in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti, Mantova, Italy, † February 4, 2012 in Mantua ) was Roman Catholic bishop of the diocese of Pavia.

Life

Giovanni Volta received on 29 June 1952, the ordination. He was rector of the diocesan seminary of Mantua, 1977-1986 professor and chaplain at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 2, 1986 Bishop of Pavia. The Bishop of Mantua, Carlo Ferrari, donated to him on 25 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Antonio Giuseppe Angioni, emeritus bishop of Pavia, and Giuseppe Amari, Bishop of Verona.

He was President of the Commission for Justice and Peace of the Italian Bishops' Conference and has considerable influence here in the policy.

On 1 December 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.
