Giulio Pace

Julius Pacius de Beriga (* 1550 in Vicenza, † 1635 in Valence ) was an Italian jurist.

Life

Julius Pacius studied law at Padua, but left his country because of his Protestant religion and went to Geneva, where from 1575 he taught the rights. Later, he taught philosophy and jurisprudence in Hungary. In 1585 he was professor at Heidelberg, in 1595 professor of logic at the new Academy Sedan. According to other locations in Nimes and Montpellier in 1618, he went to Padua. Since he had left his family in Valence, he returned to where he initially continued to teach at the university. In Valence Pacius lived until his death. He revered the experts in Roman law Jacques Cujas and maintained contacts to the German lawyers Caspar Michael Welsch. He was famous throughout Europe. Cries reached him of universities in Holland, France and Italy. In France, considerable pressure was exerted on him to take off the Protestant faith. This pressure (→ Louis XIII. , And the struggle under Charles Luynes against the Huguenots in southern France ), he finally gave in 1619.
