Giuseppe Gariboldi

Giuseppe Gariboldi ( born March 17, 1833 in Macerata, † April 12, 1905 in Castel Raimondo ) was an Italian flautist and composer.

After studying with Giuseppe D' Aloe led political reasons Gariboldis an escape to Paris, where he was supported by Gioacchino Rossini and worked as a singing teacher, flute virtuoso and composer. After the assassination of Napoleon III. he had in 1859 also left France for 3 years and has performed primarily in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 1871 he was appointed professor of composition and flute at the Paris Collège Rollin. He spent his last years, together with his wife, flutist Elmira Thomas, back in Italy.

His compositional work consists of over 420 works for flute (solo and with piano accompaniment ); some of his studies and etudes are used to this day in the classroom, including the Etudes mignonnes op 131, 20 Petites Etudes Op 132 Exercices journaliers op 89 and 15 Etudes modernes et progressive. In addition Gariboldi was a composer of numerous songs and three operettas.
