Gökçeada (district)

GOKCEADA ( Imroz ) is a city in the Turkish province of Çanakkale and the capital of the district of the same name.
The county is geographically identical with the homonymous island GOKCEADA. It is located in the Thracian Sea west front of the Gallipoli Peninsula in northwestern Turkey. The town has 5,497 inhabitants (2008 ), the county 7457.
The island belonged to Greece 1919-1923 and was slammed in the Treaty of Lausanne to the Greek -Turkish War of Turkey. From the time about 9,000 people living on the island Greeks are only about 250 remain today.
