Golovinsky District

Golovinsky (Russian Головинский ) is a district of Moscow ( Russia) in the northern administrative district east of the main road " Leningrad Highway " west of the railway route Saint Petersburg- Moscow and north of the Little Moscow railway ring. The district is 880.65 acres and has around 82,500 inhabitants.

The place name comes from the former village golovinskoye that was known since the 16th century and 19 possessed until the beginning of the 20th century a monastery. During the Soviet period the monastery was dissolved and the former village golovinskoye incorporated in the 1960s by Moscow. Since the 1930s, was moved as close to the west of the Moscow - Volga Canal, the former golovinskoye was actively cultivated with industrial facilities and residential areas. In 1991, the district Golovinsky was formed officially, whose territory includes not only golovinskoye also territories of the neighboring villages earlier Nikolskoje and Michalkowo.
