Gordon Towers

Thomas Gordon Towers, AOE ( born July 5, 1919 in Red Deer, Alberta, † June 8, 1999 ) was a Canadian politician. He was from 1991 to 1996 Vice- Governor of the Province of Alberta.

Biography

After Towers had completed his school career, he trained to become a farmer. He married on December 27, 1940 Doris R. Nicholson, with whom he had five children. Between 1956 and 1957 Towers served as chairman of the River Glen Home and School Association, in the 1960s, he took over three presidencies Canadian organizations.

Both in 1963 and in 1965 ran unsuccessfully for the House of Towers election district of his hometown. At the general election in 1972, he sat down by however and won this seat for the Progressive Conservative Party. 1974, 1979, 1980 and 1984, he was re-elected. During his time as an MP, he was a member of various commissions.

1989 Towers was proclaimed by the Chamber of Commerce his hometown for the Citizen of the Year. Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn appointed him on March 11, 1991 Vice- Governor of the Province of Alberta. Towers held that post until 17 April 1996. He died on 8 June 1999 in Red Deer and was buried at the local cemetery.
