Gornja Radgona

Gornja Radgona ( German: Oberradkersburg, Hungarian: Felsőregede ) is a city and municipality in Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of 30 villages and hamlets, 8,689 people ( as of 2008), of which only the main town of Gornja Radgona 3,259 inhabitants (as of 2002). The municipality is located in the northeast of the country on the Mur River, the border river of Slovenia to Austria. Gornja Radgona was separated by the boundary between Austria and Slovenia within the framework of the Treaty of Saint- Germain of Bad Radkersburg.

History

Once protection of the castle until 2013 Styrian district capital Bad Radkersburg on the opposite bank of the river Mur in Austria, joint development with the year 1919, when the Styria was divided between Austria and Slovenia was interrupted, and it developed its own town center. The suburb, with the built in medieval castle, now belongs to Slovenia.

In the 10 -day war in 1991 the municipality experienced bitter moments when there were civilian casualties in the conflict with the Yugoslav army and some buildings were destroyed.
